// What was your life like prior to your CrossFit training and why did you want to start working with a coach?

Much of my adult life I’ve searched for that ‘something’ to keep me interested and fit at the same time. Though I tried many different avenues, nothing prevailed. In August of 2010 I had reached the heaviest point of my life at 249 lbs. and was miserable. I decided then and there that I would become an Ultra Endurance athlete and compete in several endurance mountain bike events in the summer of 2011. With a specific goal in mind, I began training. My training was bike specific with an emphasis on weight loss and aerobic/anaerobic thresholds. Summer of 2011 came around, I competed in several endurance events, lost 40 lbs and finished in the middle of my age classification in all of my events. However, though I loved competing and the scene, I still felt ’empty’ inside. Which leads me to CrossFit Julia. Thanks to a Groupon, I took the leap of faith and entered into the CrossFit world! I believe my email to Shawn and Julia stated, “I’m here to finish what I started…”. And the journey began!

// What have been your greatest challenges (physically, mentally, emotionally) since you began your CrossFit Training?

Not seeing the physical results initially was truly the greatest challenge. I felt great, but didn’t look the part.

// What have been your greatest successes (physically,mentally or emotionally) since you began? How does your body feel now compared to when you started and WHY?

My greatest successes have been the fine tuning of my diet and the transformation of my body. Thanks to the efforts of Julia, Jessica and all of the other CFJ Coaches, I have started to achieve that elusive ‘potential’. Since the “I Am CrossFit Challenge”, my body has exploded! I’ve lost 26 pounds, transformed fat into muscle mass, gained loads of confidence and have become even more committed to achieving my goals.

// How has your life changed since starting CrossFit training? Has CrossFit transferred over into any other areas of your life?

My attitude towards overall health and fitness has done a full 180. I adhere to the Paleo lifestyle, veer away from processed foods and work fiercely at perfecting my form and being the best CrossFit athlete I can be!

// What are the advantages of CrossFit style training compared to your previous workout styles?

Other workout styles equal one word, “BORING”! Even training exclusively on my mountain bike (which I love)…. boring! CrossFit keeps me on my toes and prepares me for anything! Cliche’, but the truth! I’m more prepared for work, family, friends and life because of CrossFit!

// What advice can you give to others?

Trusting in yourself, pushing through your perceived limitations and adhering to the programming, you can and will achieve noticeable results (mentally, physically and emotionally)!
