The alarm went off at 4:15am.  Time to get up and get to the gym.  The excuses start to roll in.  “It’s pitch dark, the bed is soScreen Shot 2015-01-26 at 11.47.57 AM cozy, I hate running, I’m still tired.”  The list is endless of reasons why getting up to do this WOD is completely absurd. Sound familiar?

Maybe instead of it being 4:15am, it’s 4:15pm.  “This day at work was horrible.  I’m spent. Traffic will be crazy.  I hate running.”Another endless list of reasons to entice us to just skip the gym today.

Despite the list of excuses, we end up at the gym. We know deep down that we will not regret this decision even though it might be painful.  The end result is better than the short term discomfort.  And it’s true.

Yes, we will run 2 or 3 miles today even though it’s dark, cold, and we are tired.  We will do 150 lunges even though our quads and glutes will feel the burn.  But as soon as we walk throughIMG_0157 the door, we realize that we are there with friends, with family, and with others that are experiencing the exact same thing.  And some of them hate running more than you do.  We will work together, run side by side. Talk about our families, our weekends, our day ahead, and how much we hate running.  But we will do it… together.

Creating bonds through a  common desire to improve ourselves is a HUGE part of the CrossFit Julia culture and community.  We are all on the same page and that is one where all of us want the other person to achieve and become healthier, happier, and a better version of themselves.  Doesn’t matter what our strengths or weaknesses are.  Doesn’t matter if do or do not have the ability to do a pistol.  “Just get better than you were yesterday… I will help you!”

And become better we will.  We will drop those pounds, shed that body fat, get stronger and more toned legs.  We will become more confident in our physical abilities and get those 6 packs abs we have always wanted.  Our decision to come to the gym today will filter throughout the rest of the day as we choose a healthier meal or get to bed earlier.

The decision to crawl out of bed or to brave the traffic has paid off… BIG!  So when tomorrow rolls around, instead of creating a list of reasons of why you don’t want to go, create a list of all the benefits you will get when you DO go.  Change your mindset, change your life.  It’s all about perspective and nothing can stop you from thinking that today will be the best day of your life!
